The Brantwood Atelier is an artist’s collective in New York City built on the principles of John Ruskin. We share Ruskin’s belief in the generative power of art to transform both individuals and society. We pursue the Ruskinian ideal through a wide range of art classes, events, and workshops.
Classical, instructor-led figure drawing evenings are at the heart of all we do, and we offer frequent opportunities to draw some of the finest models in the world in unique spaces throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. In addition to figure drawing we also offer workshops focused on a wide range of fine art techniques and media-specific creative work. We also do private events and artist’s retreats.
Meet Our Co-Creators
Principal
Reed is a native New Yorker, growing up in Park Slope in a family and community of local artists. Reed received his formal training at Central St. Martin’s and Goldsmith’s University in London, and his work as an artist centers on portraiture and the human figure. Reed is the principal of The Brantwood Atelier and leads all of our sessions.
Travis is a scholar of nineteenth and twentieth-century cultural history, and his work centers on John Ruskin’s theories of historic preservation and the visual arts. Reed and Travis are partners in life, and work together to cultivate and develop Brantwood’s community of artists.
